Dental Bridges

Custom-Made Bridges to Replace Missing Teeth

If you are missing one or more teeth, a dental bridge can restore your bite, smile, and self-confidence. These carefully crafted restorations will attach to your adjacent teeth, literally bridging the gap in your smile. At Pure Smile Dental, we work with an experienced lab whose technicians will create a natural restoration that matches the overall look of your smile.

The Basics of a Dental Bridge

A bridge is made of an appropriate number of replacement teeth, or pontics, connected together to form a single restoration. Before placing your bridge, Dr. Lo will reshape the adjacent healthy teeth, or abutment teeth, to support the dental crowns on each end of the bridge. She will work conservatively, removing only as much tooth structure as needed to support the crowns. Then she will take impressions, so our lab can create a restoration that fits comfortably and securely. When the bridge is finished, Dr. Lo will affix it to your teeth.

Advanced Materials for a Natural Look

You can choose one of several materials for your dental bridge. Gold restorations are very strong, and they will usually last the rest of your life. However, the bridge’s appearance may clash with your smile. Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) restorations offer a more lifelike appearance. Nevertheless, over time, the metal may start to show through, compromising the esthetics of your grin. For a more lifelike appearance, we typically recommend all-porcelain restorations. Dental porcelain is virtually identical to tooth enamel, and, thanks to recent advancements, it is comparable in durability to metal.
